BOAT (32 min 40 Sec)

Unable to perform live in the wake of Covid, the Gallim Dance Company needed to adapt one of their beloved works “BOAT,” from stage to screen. Commissioned and presented by Northrop at the University of Minnesota, the film premiered as a headlining event of their 2020 Dance Series Festival, and is now entering the festival circuit.

In the present day, we have come to rely on technology to deconstruct and compress the world around us, in order that we might effectively walk in the shoes of a person we do not know and will likely never meet.  BOAT examines this empathic journey from two distinct perspectives: a humanitarian crisis and a family tragedy. Structured around the music of Arvo Pärt and the choreography of Andrea Miller, BOAT weaves together themes of memory, identity, and humanity’s tireless quest to touch the void.
